    August 21, 2026 — We just dropped off my daughter at college. Preparing a daughter to go to college as a freshman is akin to planning a moon landing: vast amounts of equipment must be purchased, staged, and then packed into a single vehicle. The equipment must cover life in an environment yet unknown, and allow for habitation over a defined period.     Unexpected Emotions

    July 28, 2026 — I was able to visit the Parthenon this week. What an odd thing to write. For most of my life, I’ve seen pictures of this building. To actually see it in person was more than a bit surreal. As we got closer to it, our taxi driver, who could barely speak any English, pointed out to us over the tree line.
